How to Measure Your Balcony for Safety Nets: A Step-by-Step Guide

Learn how to accurately measure your balcony or window space for professional safety net installation to ensure perfect tension and security.

Introduction

Ensuring the safety of your children and pets in high-rise apartments starts with an accurate measurement of your balcony or window openings. Professional-grade safety nets require precise dimensions to maintain optimal tension and provide maximum security.

Tools You'll Need

  • A high-quality steel measuring tape (standard 5m or 10m)
  • A notebook and pen
  • A ladder (if measuring high points)
  • A helper to hold the other end of the tape

Step 1: Measuring the Height

Measure the vertical distance from the floor (or the top of the parapet wall) to the ceiling or the structural beam above. It's important to measure at both ends of the balcony and the center, as structures can sometimes be slightly uneven.

Step 2: Measuring the Width

Measure the horizontal distance between the side walls. For curved balconies, measure the perimeter along the edge where the net will be installed. Always measure the widest and narrowest points to ensure full coverage.

Step 3: Accounting for Obstructions

Note any pipes, AC units, or architectural features that the net needs to go around. For OTS (Open to Sky) ducts, you'll need the internal dimensions of the shaft.

Why Precision Matters

A loose safety net is an ineffective one. At Star Enterprises, we use these measurements to custom-fabricate your net with high-tensile 316-grade stainless steel cables or UV-stabilized HDPE yarn. Precision ensures that there are no gaps and that the net can withstand emergency impact loads of up to 100kg.
